Journal of Life in Japan 5: Shower in the Kitchen


Journal of life in Japan stories are created as podcasts/audio stories. I tell stories from my past about the things I have experienced living in Japan. You can get a sense of what it's like to live in Japan from listening to my stories. These are stories of experiences from my past--a life I've lived in Japan. This is a story about the makeshift shower I had to set up in my kitchen and the ensuing havoc that came from doing that. Partial Transcript: I used to live an old house on the second story. It was an old lady's house and she lived on the first story and I guess she didn't the extra room. And she rented out the second story to me. And it was really spacious. The second story had four large rooms and by Japanese standards it was a really large rental area. It was an old Japanese style house, really traditional. It had a rock garden in the middle and wooden verandas on the inside and sliding wooden door, and inside it had the paper sliding doors. So it was a really old house and the beams hung really low so when I went from one room to another I had to duck, and I can't even count the amount of times I bumped my head on those beams. And since it was her house she only had one shower and the shower was on the first floor. Now I had a separate entrance up to the second story where my living area was and that entrance was on the outside of the house so I never had to see her.
